GVSA was initially selected by the town of Shorter, Alabama to masterplan the entire city. A comprehensive process and analysis began with Shorter’s leadership having an interest in attracting industry to the surrounding area. Being between Tuskegee and Montgomery, their focus was how to accommodate a new commerce to the area along with a need for young professionals, college students, and retirees. All forms of urban planning and development were synthesized to a long-range plan moving forward. Its first implementation included an 8.5 acre first phase to support mixed-use residential, senior housing, a health clinic center, activity center, green space, and courtyards. As this segment of the overall plan was refined, the owner allowed GVSA to move forward with the complete design of the Health and Activity Centers.
